NSCDA Region IV Connecticut Meeting

NSCDA-WV president Jane Boylin and past president Priscilla Lawson attended the Region IV  meeting in May 2013.  The Museum committee meetings opened with an informative talk by museum authority Bill Hosley, who spoke on Patriotic Sisterhood: Women and the Origins of Historic Preservation.  Hosley focused primarily on the Connecticut dames and how women contributed to their world and to their nation.  Dames toured the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum comprised of three separate and adjacent museum houses, each with its own identity and mission, from a 1700s home to a twentieth-century restoration. Following the tours, a luncheon was held in a barn behind the museums that was erected several years ago for functions such as weddings and other special events. A spectacular garden separates the barn from the houses. Priscilla Lawson noted, “One of the tremendous benefits of belonging to a national organization is the ability to meet and work with people from all over the country who are working on similar projects and facing similar problems.”   Lawson also took note of the many creative and stimulating  events – everything from a Pirate’s Day with pirate flags and bandanas to a History Book Club – all coordinated by Colonial Dames.
