Together, we shape the future by honoring and preserving our American history!

NSCDA, the leading historical preservation organization in America, preserves historical houses and structures all across America. Dumbarton House in Washington, DC, is headquarters of the national Dames.

Historical
Activities

Dames support the Craik-Patton Museum House through financial support and as volunteers for School Days, Christmas and Spring historical tours. Other projects preserve the unique stories of West Virginia Dames who have helped keep history alive in West Virginia.

Patriotic
Service

To promote love of freedom and a love of the democratic way of life, the West Virginia Colonial Dames sponsor a high school essay contest and a college scholarship. They also welcome and educate new citizens in ceremonies at the Robert C. Byrd Courthouse in Charleston, West Virginia.

Craik-Patton
House

This furnished historic house with close ties to George Washington portrays the life and experience of the 1830s in America as our nation was founded. The West Virginia Colonial Dames saved and reconstructed the home in Daniel Boone Park on the banks of the Great Kanawha River.

It is a distinct and special honor to be named by one’s Society to the Roll of Honor. Each Society President works with her board of managers to identify and approve worthy individuals in their society whose sustained service, dedicated leadership and devotion to the ideals of the NSCDA has gone above beyond the ordinary. Each honoree is entitled to wear the unique Roll of Honor Pin.

Jane Boylin, NSCDA-VP, addresses group

Jane Boylin, NSCDA national vice president and Development Committee chair, was the guest speaker for NSCDA-WV’s Semi Annual Meeting at Edgewood County Club on November 10. She was a two term president of NSCDA-WV who helped reorganize the Craik-Patton Board and establish a NSCDA-WV website (2013-2014). On the national level, she was chair of the Comprehensive Campaign that raised $10 million to solidify the organization’s future.

NSCDA expanded scholarship opportunities, establishing the Great American Treasures project, and sponsoring historical and patriotic projects at Dumbarton. The Treasures national website linked 60 historical properties all across America in a Museum Alliance giving Dames the opportunity to honor their ancestors and lay the groundwork for NSCDA’s future. Boylin was also chair of the Dumbarton House Board.

In her address to West Virginia Dames, Boylin detailed the history of Dumbarton House, established as national headquarters in 1915. She noted that 2022 marks the 90th anniversary of Dumbarton House as a museum. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve,” she said. She concludes her term in 2022 and is looking forward to being active in the Huntington, West Virginia Town Committee.
