The Cabell County Committee of NSCDA-WV, in conjunction with the West Virgina Society of NSCDA, awarded on April 10, 2015, a $400 scholarship to Ms. Hailey Horn, outstanding history major at Marshall University at the annual History Department banquet. Mrs. J. Churchill Hodges, member of the Cabell County Committee and past president of NSCDA-WV, presented the certificate and check to the winner.
Ms. Horn was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree in May 2015 with a major and history and a minor in women’s studies. Dr. Dan Holbrook is chair of the MU History Department. Mrs. Douglas E. Ey of NSCDA-WV helped coordinate the scholarship process.
Ms. Horn is from Oak Hill, West Virginia, and she attended Concord College for two years before transferring to Marshall University and changed her major to history. She has completed several research projects and has enjoyed her course of study at Marshall. Before winning the NSCDA scholarship, she had planned to take a year off because she could not afford to take the Graduate Record Exam, a requirement for graduate school. The NSCDA award will help pay for the GRE and the application to graduate school in the spring of 2016.
Ms. Horn plans to continue her study in history and pursue a Master of Arts in teaching. “Thank you for this blessing in my life,” she said, to the NSCDA-WV sponsors.
