*Day of Giving Update
Sunday, October 17th, 2021 @ 11:51AM
Through the month of October more than $10,350.00 has been raised. Donations are still being accepted for this important fundraiser which helps fund the salary of our full-time House Director, Nathan Jones.
The Craik-Patton House is hosting a Virtual Day of Giving on October 28 as a fundraiser event that will feature historian Dr. Courtney Thompson of Mississippi State University. Dr. Thompson will discuss her recent book, An Organ of Murder,-Crime,-Violence, and Phrenology in Nineteenth Century America. The subject of her discussion will relate to the Reverend James Craik, who built the current Craik-Patton House in 1834. Dr. Thompson will reveal Dr. Craik’s course of study at the Transylvania University Medical School in the mid-1820s prior to his residency in Charleston. Craik became an attorney by profession and also a minister. An ancestor of George and Martha Washington, he answered Washington ‘s call to settle the western frontier of Virginia, which later became the state of West Virginia.
This event will take place via Zoom and registration is required to attend the presentation. Mail your donation to Nathan Jones, Executive Director of the Craik-Patton House, P.O. Box 175, Charleston, WV 25321. You can phone Nathan with questions at 304.925.5341.
Donations can be charged to a credit card or accepted by check. The Virtual Day of Giving has been organized because the year and a half pandemic has made it impossible to host the annual Charleston, West Virginia cocktail party.
Thank you for your generosity: your donation helps support the salary of our House Director along with house maintenance. Dame Anne Silbernagel has chaired this event.
