The Craik-Patton Holiday Open House held Dec. 7-8 featured tours, special exhibits,and cookies and refreshments. Docents led tours of the 1834 house built by James Craik, a descendant of George and Martha Washington. The second famous American family that purchased the house in 1858 was Colonel George Patton of Civil War history. Patton was a Virginia Military Institute graduate who was the grandfather of General George Patton of World War II fame.

The downstairs Conference Room featured exhibits of the 1900 Founders of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of West Virginia; a video slide show featuring the restoration of the house; and, an early American pressed glass display.

Nathan Jones, house director, assisted by Robert Simmons, Americorps volunteer, and Anne Silbernagel, chair of the Holiday Planning Committee, coordinated the annual event. The Craik-Patton House is the headquarters of NSCDA in West Virginia located in Daniel Boone Park, Charleston, WV.
