You’re Invited to the Second Annual Day at Dumbarton – April 29-May 1.
Get to know the ins-and-outs of Dumbarton House historic house museum and your National Headquarters.
This new program is designed to bring NSCDA members from around the country to their National Headquarters to explore topics related to the preservation and interpretation of Dumbarton House through lectures, workshops, and behind-the-scenes tours.
Wednesday, April 29, 2020
Join us for the start of Day at Dumbarton 2020 programming with a self-guided tour of the museum, a cocktail hour, and dinner at Dumbarton House with a presentation by artist, Peter Waddell! Get a chance to mingle with other Dames and key Dumbarton House staff members prior to the official start of programming on Thursday morning!
Thursday, April 30, 2020
Come join us for a day of discussion centered around the theme of “cultural landscapes.” Through a tour of our own museum and grounds, a staff panel discussion, and two speakers, we will learn about how the landscape and gardens of Washington DC and historic properties like Dumbarton House and Winterthur have changed over time. Create a keepsake based on Dumbarton House’s own collection to remember your visit by!
Following the day’s programming, dine at Robert’s Restaurant within the grand historic lobby of the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Northwest DC! With views of the gardens (which will be in full bloom in late April) and an exquisite menu, Robert’s Restaurant is one of DC’s favorites. Cocktail hour and dinner will occur on the terrace overlooking the greenery.
Friday, May 1, 2020
Join us for a private tour of Marjorie Merriweather Post’s mansion and gardens in Northwest DC. Hillwood contains the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia, a distinguished eighteenth-century French decorative art collection, and twenty-five acres of serene landscaped gardens and natural woodlands for all to enjoy.
Following the tour, you have the option to join us for lunch at the Hillwood estate’s restaurant, the Merriweather Cafe!
