Mrs. Robert A. McMillan, Regent of Gunston Hall, the home of patriot George Mason, represents West Virginia Dames and NSCDA in new leadership positions as Regent. Named chair of the Governance Committee in 2014, she steered the new committee in revising the corporation’s by-laws and standing rules. In 2015, Mrs. McMillan was named chair of the new Investment Committee of the Board of Regents. This committee merged with the Board of Regents and the new corporation (BRGH), thus acquiring its tax-exempt status and its investment portfolio.

According to the Regent, the year 2016 will be the 240th anniversary celebration of the writing of the Virginia Bill of Rights created by patriot and founder George Mason. This document served as a model for the creation of the national Bill of Rights that protects America’s freedoms. To celebrate the anniversary, Gunston Hall will sponsor a symposium at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia (October 2016). Gunston Hall will also be the featured loan exhibit for the 2016 Washington Antique Show (January 8-10, 2016). A few special events and projects at Gunston Hall include a Symposium on the Architecture of Democracy (November 2015); continued collaboration with George Mason University; and renovation of the Quad and Visitor Center.

Gunston Hall is one of four historical houses supported by West Virginia Dames and NSCDA to preserve the American heritage. Dumbarton House in Washington, DC, is the headquarters of NSCDA; Sulgrave Manor in England is the ancestral home of patriot George Washington; and the Craik-Patton House in Charleston is the headquarters of the Colonial Dames in West Virginia.

NSCDA is society with historical and patriotic purposes. Dames preserve what is valuable in our nation’s history and pay tribute to the courage and ideals of our colonial ancestors.
