Live History

The West Virginia chapter of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America brings history to life by hosting interpreters who portray many historical figures. In October 2018, the Huntington Dames will host Alexander Hamilton. Below are some images from past performances. For more information about upcoming events and to join the organization, contact the WV Dames.

George Washington, portrayed by historical interpreter Dean Malissa, spoke to guests at a special dinner at the Craik-Patton Museum House in November 2013. President Washington gave his secretary desk to George Washington Craik, his personal secretary, who gave it to son James Craik, builder of the Craik House in Charleston, West Virginia in 1834. James settled in Charleston because President Washington urged families to settle in the beautiful Kanawha Valley along the wide Kanawha River. The event was a NSCDA-WV benefit in support of the famous historical house. Katharine Becker was chair of the committee that brought Dean Malissa to Charleston, WV.

John Adams was portrayed by Peyton Dixon while visiting local schools on November 7-9, 2014. He also spoke at a luncheon at Guyan Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia.  His wife, Abigail, was not there, but guests were served a meal at lunch that Abigail would have served. Jane Boylin and Dixie Wilson were committee chairs of this benefit for the Craik-Patton Museum House in Charleston, West Virginia.

2016 Thomas Jefferson Fundraiser The West Virginia Dames held a successful history reenactment luncheon fundraiser that benefited the Craik-Patton House on November 11th at Edgewood Country Club. Mr. Steven Edenbo gave an outstanding performance with his portrayal of Thomas Jefferson. After expenses we made a profit of $21,210.06. The morning before the fundraiser Mr. Edenbo portrayed Thomas Jefferson in front of approximately 400 elementary school students at Holz Elementary School, Craik-Patton House, and St. Agnes Elementary School. That evening Mr. and Mrs. Shawn George graciously invited Mr. Edenbo and the NSCDA-WV Board of Managers to their lovely home for cocktails and dinner. Sandra Smith was the coordinator of the day’s events.
